Implantology Castel Maggiore, Bologna.

In our dental clinic, hundreds of implant surgeries are performed each year where different types of implants are placed from the simplest to the most complex. The goal is to restore missing teeth with “artificial teeth” that are highly durable and identical to natural teeth in both appearance and feel.

Modern implantology now offers the possibility of rehabilitations even in difficult situations often characterized by poor bone quantity.
With implantology, single teeth as well as entire full arches (immediate full-arch) can be recreated, thus realizing the dream of having fixed teeth.

Should the bone prerequisites not be present (totally atrophic maxillary and mandibular bones) with implantology, however, it is almost always possible to anchor removable dental prostheses that do not stay put and hurt.

The strict protocols adopted by our dental clinic (from dental offices, to surgical clinics and certified dental sterilization procedures) ensure extremely high safety and predictability of the work performed.

With the use of 3D cone-beam CT and dedicated software, one is able to plan implant placement with certainty by finding, when possible, deep bone sites that are capable of safely supporting implants.

1. Single element implantology

Now reliable and safe, the technique of osseointegrated implantology offers patients the opportunity to insert new elements into edentulous areas thus restoring efficient chewing. The dental implants we use are certified and can replace single teeth or groups of missing teeth, or allow removable dentures to be securely fixed, allowing lost comfort, aesthetics and security to be restored. Implants make it possible to faithfully replicate the aesthetics of natural teeth as well as providing comfort and function.

2. Implatology in bone deficiency

In our practice we perform horizontal, vertical and inlay (sinus and/or sinus lift) bone regeneration procedures using autologous bone grafts (intra- and extra-oral harvests).
The procedures used conform to the latest surgical techniques that include the use of resorbable, nonresorbable membranes and the use of titanium osteosynthesis plates.
The choice to use intraoral sampling allows the highest probability of graft integration with the least postoperative discomfort for the patient. Sometimes, however, in cases of major bone atrophy and needing large amounts of bone, we use harvesting from the iliac crest.

3. Mini bullish technique

CLINICAL CASE: mini sinus lift.
Allows implants to be placed when the correct bone thicknesses are lacking. technique involves crestal access, lifting of the sinus lining membrane, insertion of regenerative material with PRF and concomitant implant placement.

4. Great bullish technique

CLINICAL CASE: large sinus lift.
For major maxillary bone atrophy, this technique involves filling the sinus floor with regenerative material and PRF , through a lateral hatch.

5. Grafting with extraoral harvesting

CLINICAL CASE: bone grafting with extra-oral harvesting. For complete rehabilitation of a full arch, in cases of severe bone atrophy, a significant amount of bone needs to be grafted. In these circumstances we prefer bone harvesting from the iliac crest.

6. Immediate FULL ARCH (I.F.A.).

Today it is possible to perform a complete rehabilitation in one surgery even if there are still some remaining teeth. The result is almost immediate: as early as the next day, in fact, it is possible to show off beautiful, complete and, above all, guaranteed teeth. The new technique (I.F.A.), allows implants to be inserted even in conditions of very little bone. Then, thanks to the use of new three-dimensional radiographic systems (CBTC), it is possible to construct special guides that make surgery so much easier. To such an extent that, in some cases, it is not even necessary to open the gums. The procedure is thus extremely simplified and painless.

7. Aesthetic dentures on mini implants

CLINICAL CASE: use of mini-implants in severe bone atrophy
Sometimes the bone loss is such that it cannot be easily replenished. It is necessary to undergo significantly invasive (iliac crest bone harvesting), poorly predictable, and time-consuming interventions. In these cases, aesthetic prosthetics on mini-implants provide appreciable aesthetic results achieved in a very short time.

8. Removable prosthesis on implants

Conscious sedation

In our practice we use conscious sedation or sedation analgesia in the presence of an anesthesiologist. Fear of dental care is widespread, so much so that many people give up going to the dentist as long as they can and, when they do, try to limit themselves to the bare minimum. This attitude very often leads to the extreme consequences of resorting to removable prostheses, dentures, instead of implant procedures, which, yes, lead to having a perfect mouth again, but are undoubtedly more involving for the fearful.

Implantology is a procedure that does not actually cause pain either during surgery, as you are under local anesthesia, or after treatment, partly because special medications are administered, but despite this, many people are afraid of even the word ‘surgery’. For this reason, for the past few years, I have preferred to use ‘conscious sedation,’ a procedure in which the anesthesiologist administers drugs to the patient that lead to a state of great tranquility and imperturbability, even while in full consciousness.

The procedure is performed at the dental office chair, does not require hospitalization, and is limited in duration to the procedure. At the end of treatment, painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs are administered, which provide a postoperative period free of pain and swelling: the patient does not remember precisely the duration or details of the surgery, usually believing that it all took place in a much shorter time than it actually did and without having felt anything ‘invasive. Upon completion he is ‘awakened’ from his stupor and is fully able to resume his usual activity and social life, although it is preferable that he does not drive a car until the next day.
