Dental prosthetics Castel Maggiore, Bologna.
At our dental office in Castel Maggiore, Bologna, dentures are applied to solve the problems of patients with missing one or more teeth. The purpose of a well-built prosthesis is to perfectly mimic the person’s teeth, both in its functional part and in its aesthetics.
Restoring dental arches is certainly important for a patient’s appearance, but it is critical for overall oral health. The gap left by the missing teeth causes an alteration in proper occlusion, because the remaining ones tend to move to reconnect and regain contact.
Incorrect dental occlusion can experience discomfort in muscles and joints, as well as in everything related to chewing and the oral cavity in general.
Fixed dental prosthetics
Mobile dental prosthesis
Difference between fixed dental prosthesis and removable dental prosthesis.
Fixed dentures are not removable by the patient because they are permanently secured to implants or teeth.
The most common examples of fixed dental restorations are dental caps, veneers, crowns, dental bridges, and full arch dentures.
Mobile prostheses are usually the most commonly used for elderly patients, but they are also used temporarily where one has to wait to install a fixed implant, such as when performing bone regeneration. Of course, this type of prosthesis can be removed directly by the patient, and it is advisable to do so at least once a day to carry out proper oral hygiene.
There are also invisible removable dentures that are inserted and secured in the patient’s mouth by unseen hooks so that the teeth look even.

A simple visit for a state-of-the-art tooth replacement
The dentist will take a thorough history to learn about the patient’s medical conditions, complaints and problems caused by missing one or more teeth, and the expectations he or she has. Restoring both the function and aesthetics of the dentition is a delicate operation that must begin by listening carefully to the patient to gather all the information that will be useful in creating a prosthesis that satisfies him or her.
Then the dentist will provide the clinical examination using also radiographs and photographs of the face and teeth and paradental structures. All collected data and measurements will be provided to the dental technician for the fabrication of models and, then, the final prosthetic artifact.
To examine the functionality and appearance of the denture, diagnostic wax-up is used before the final one is made. It consists of a wax prototype that perfectly simulates what the final prosthesis is to be, so it must be harmonious with respect to the patient’s natural teeth and must ensure perfect occlusion.
Currently, virtual waxing can also be used, which involves processing photos of the patient’s face and mouth using photo editing programs. This methodology makes it possible to engage the patient immediately by letting them see what the outcome of their teeth might be at the end of the treatment. With virtual waxing, different solutions can be made to show the patient without increasing the cost of making models.
